Accused's 'secret' about Sarah Groves' death 'had no substance'
A 'SECRET' the man accused of murdering Sarah Groves wanted to tell her parents had no substance, her father Vic Groves has said.
Mr Groves and his wife Kate had been tormented by the disclosure that Dutchman Richard de Wit apparently held a 'secret' about their daughter's death, but was only willing to share it with them in person.
The couple were willing to travel to Kashmir at short notice, but only de Wit genuinely had new information.
However, speaking yesterday as the 90th hearing at the District Court in Srinagar took place, Mr Groves said: 'After some difficulty, we were able to speak to de Wit by phone on 23 February with the permission of the jail superintendent in Srinagar.
'It was an unsatisfactory call from which we could understand his reasons for wanting to talk to us.
'The details must remain confidential but we can reveal that the statements he made were without foundation and confirmed the wisdom of our decision not to travel to Kashmir in order to hear his revelations.'
De Wit denies murdering the 24-year-old Sarah Groves on a houseboat in Kashmir in 2013.
