Little Chapel scaffolding down soon

SCAFFOLDING, which has covered the Little Chapel for more than 18 months, will be removed in two weeks' time, just in time for the Easter school holidays.

The announcement comes as the Little Chapel Foundation gears up to set up the Friends of the Little Chapel, as one way of meeting the cost of the £500,000-worth of work planned.

Foundation chairman Pat Johnson said the scaffolding would start coming down on 3 April. It will take four days to remove and, during that time, the access road will be closed.

'It will then be 100% open,' Mr Johnson said.

'The architects and the builders have done a superb job in re-roofing the building, so it is now wind and watertight.'

A leaning wall has also been secured to a concrete wall to stabilise it, and new lighting has been installed.

So far about £180,000 of work has been carried out, and another £180,000 is needed to pay for phase three. That will hopefully take place next winter and will see underpinning work. Scaffolding will not be needed for the next phase.
