As part of the aims of the Integrated Transport Strategy, the hoops have been put in at beach locations, public parks, the reservoir and the newly-regenerated area of La Vallette, because they are all popular with both locals and visitors.

By providing designated cycle parking for families, visitors and individuals, Traffic & Highway Services said cyclists will now be able to ‘lock their cycles to the cycle stands and hoops while they go about enjoying some of the most scenic locations that Guernsey has to offer or while they may be using nearby public amenities’.

Marine-grade stainless steel has been used in beach locations, while wooden hoops have been used to fit in with the natural park and reservoir environments, and polyamide coated hoops were fitted to existing bollards in La Plaiderie business area.

‘While this phase of work is complete we are always looking for additional locations specifically in Town, where we could investigate installing more cycle hoops which would be useful for commuting cyclists,’ a spokesperson for Traffic & Highway said.

‘We have seen the new cycle hoops have been used regularly.’
