Swimmer in Japan for sixth of Ocean’s Seven

LONG distance swimmer Adrian Sarchet is attempting the sixth of the Ocean’s Seven swims.

Adrian Sarchet is setting off at about 8 this evening Guernsey time to swim the 12-mile Tsugaru Strait, the sixth of long distance swimming’s Ocean’s Seven. (19179619)

This time it is the 12-mile Tsugaru Strait, between Honshu and Hokkaido in Japan.

He is due to start at around 4am local time tomorrow, which will be 8pm today Guernsey time.

Previously the Carey Olsen advocate has swum the English Channel, the Catalina Channel, the Strait of Gibraltar, the North Channel and the Molokai Channel.

The final one of the seven is the Cook Strait between New Zealand’s North and South Islands.

The Tsugaru swim is expected to take between 12 and 17 hours and Mr Sarchet is likely to face ferocious currents and interesting local wildlife including sharks, Humboldt squid, poisonous sea snakes and jellyfish.

His wife, Andrea Sarchet-Luff, said the North Korean missile which passed overhead was a hazard they had not anticipated.
