Survivors due to attend ceremony

TWO survivors of the sinking of HMS Charybdis and Limbourne will be visiting the island next weekend as part of Guernsey’s annual commemorations.

More than 30 members of the Guernsey Association of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines will be travelling to the island from the UK for the weekend. The two survivors of the 1943 disaster who are able to travel are both over 90 years old.

Weather permitting, there will be a Beating Retreat, by the band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines, a ceremony in the grounds of Government House on Saturday 23 September while the annual memorial service at Le Foulon Cemetery will take place on Sunday 24 September at 3pm.
