Pet-sitting businesses should be licensed – GSPCA boss

PET businesses such as those offering day care and boarding should be licensed, the island’s leading animal welfare charity has said.

While the government plans to introduce licensing, it has been pushed back due to work of a higher priority.

As it stands, there is no barrier to entry into pet care in terms of legislation.

GSPCA manager Steve Byrne said licensing would be of great benefit.

‘As far as I’m aware there is a plan to implement a series of rules and licensing for animal businesses – how and when, we have not been informed,’ he said.
