Olivia brings her Art for Guernsey
A UNIQUE and fascinating exhibition from a UK artist opens to the public tomorrow.
Featuring 40 meticulously rendered and minutely detailed pen drawings, many of which feature local landscapes and settings, it’s the work of Olivia Kemp, who has been brought to the island by Art for Guernsey.
‘I am a collector of art and I spotted Olivia’s work in the James Freeman Gallery in London,’ said Art for Guernsey founder, David Ummels. ‘I made an approach and she liked the project.’
Last year David brought over Moldovan artist Eugen Gorean as an artist in residence and this year it has been Olivia’s turn. She has visited the island several times and created work over the year.
‘It’s not about exhibiting art work, it’s about offering community value. Olivia is a full-time artist but works one day a week teaching at the Royal Drawing School [RDS]. We have 400 children from 12 local schools coming to see Olivia’s work.’
Art for Guernsey will also be supporting two of the 12 shortlisted art students in the Sovereign Art Foundation School Art Prize Competition.
Olivia Kemp - Exhibition of pen drawings is in the Inner Street of the Market Buildings from Thursday until Saturday 7 October. The exhibition is free.
