Deputy Al’s moustache goes to help ActionAid
IT WAS his distinguishing feature in the same way as it was for Charlie Chaplin and Freddie Mercury, but West deputy Al Brouard has shaved off his iconic moustache in the name of charity.
The long-standing deputy last shaved it, again for charity, in 1988.
‘We have got a project that ActionAid Guernsey are doing which is rebuilding a two-storey classroom block that was destroyed by a 2015 earthquake in Nepal.
‘ActionAid Guernsey are going to raise £100,000 and, as I’m going on the volunteers’ trip, I thought it would be a good idea to raise some sponsorship by shaving off my moustache which I’ve had since school.
‘I only lost it once and that was 1988 for Children In Need.’
Natalie Tucker, chairman of ActionAid Guernsey, said she thought Deputy Brouard would find it quite cold in the mountains of Nepal.
‘We would like to thank him for his fundraising efforts towards the project.
‘We are going on 27 October, so it’s the last bit of fundraising our members are doing.’
