Vale Rec pay a special tribute

DAVE LE NOURY might not have approved of the marquee erected on his precious pitch at the Corbet Field yesterday, but family, friends, footballers and fellow club members were eager to pay a special tribute to the dedicated groundsman, who died last month after an association with Vale Rec that lasted nearly 70 years.

The club’s flag flew at half mast and the Dave Dorey stand was filled to capacity and beyond, as some were obliged to stand throughout the short service in honour of the man who many also knew as ‘Rooney’.

The ceremony was led by the the Rev. Peter Graysmith, and saw moving and often amusing tributes from Mr Le Noury’s family and friends.
