‘Absurd plan only benefits doctors’

THE proposed relocation by the Medical Specialist Group has been branded ‘absurd and unacceptable’, by the island’s senior politician.

Policy & Resources president Gavin St Pier has entered the growing row over the plan, saying it will lead to taxpayers’ money paying for a property that will benefit the company’s partners, but not patients.

The MSG is paid £17m. a year to provide secondary healthcare for the States, a contract only just re-negotiated.

It now wants to move to Park Place, but both Health & Social Care and now Deputy St Pier argue it should go to the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

MSG hit back saying that there were other development priorities at the PEH.

‘I was extremely disappointed and frustrated to learn of the MSG’s planning application to move its primary base to Park Street,’ said Deputy St Pier.

‘The plans will not improve patient care one iota – and the location may actually degrade the patient experience. I cannot think of a single benefit from the point of view of islanders.

‘It is absurd and unacceptable in equal measure.’
