Only two States-owned sites are said to be big enough and free from other commitments – the former Castel Hospital and part of Belgrave Vinery.

‘We are looking into potential courses of study, potential partner universities, potential sites, looking into the financial model for the operation of the university, and various potential funding models,’ said Deputy Charles Parkinson, who is on the working party investigating the option.

‘It is a large-scale piece of work and we have barely started.

‘We did an initial appraisal which said there could be something here, and we got a little bit of funding from Policy & Resources and Economic Development to do a little bit of research, but it’s very early days.’
