Le Chalet ‘not viable as hotel’ – planning appeal

LE CHALET is not viable as a hotel, a planning appeal has accepted.

But the appeal panel has also rejected plans for 17 flats on the Fermain site, on the grounds of the proposed design.

Vista Hotels Ltd bought the site in 2010 and closed it in 2012. The company had planned to redevelop the the area with a ‘valley vision’, which included the nearby four-star Fermain Valley Hotel.

It also included converting the former Le Chalet into 17 apartments, but planning permission for that was rejected on the grounds that the hotel was still viable.

In the decision notice, presiding appeal panel member Jonathan King said the panel had decided that the proposed development would not harm neighbours, but they were worried about the state of the new flats.

Tim Coates, on behalf of Vista Hotels, said they were disappointed by the decision and they would be discussing what the next step would be.
