STORM BRIAN has forced Condor to cancel the Commodore Clipper sailings to Portsmouth today and reschedule tomorrow’s sailings.

The company had already cancelled its weekend fast ferry sailings, but the worsening forecast led to the company also cancelling the conventional ferry.

‘Winds for the Channel Island area during Saturday afternoon/evening into Sunday morning will increase from Force 7 gusting Force 8 to Force 8 gusting Force 9 during the evening,’ a company spokesman said.

‘Wave heights will average at least 6.5 metres, with the possibility of significantly higher wave heights during this period.

‘The period of high wave and wind intensity is now forecasted to extend into Sunday morning with the predicted drop in winds not being realised until possibly midday Sunday.’

Tomorrow’s sailing will depart Portsmouth an hour earlier than scheduled to allow more time to get across the Channel.

The inter-island services are also set to be disrupted, with Travel Trident stating that it was doubtful there would be any sailings to Herm today.

Sark Shipping has said all today’s scheduled sailings are cancelled. However, an additional sailing has been added, which will depart Guernsey at 9am and Sark at 10am, although this will be subject to weather.

Perelle’s coast road was closed at lunchtime yesterday – seven hours before high tide – and will not be reopened until the weather subsides. There was a serious flood warning for the west coast for this morning’s 8.15am high tide of 9.4 metres.
