Sammy Hogg took the pictures of Alderney’s rare visitor. She said the pictures proved she was not mistaken in its identity.

The visitor, a pelican, would normally be found in the hot coastal regions of Africa, Asia, Australia and the Americas.

Its unusual sighting in Alderney is believed to possibly be as a result of Storm Ophelia.

The bird spent some time in Longis and was spotted by Sammy Hogg, who managed to photograph and video it on her phone.

It is believed to be the first time a pelican has been seen in the wild in the Channel Islands.
