‘Only Gatwick makes a profit’

EVERY route operated by Aurigny, with the exception of London Gatwick, is ‘either making small losses or treading water’, the States’ Trading Supervisory Board president revealed at yesterday’s hearing.

The airline’s predicted losses for 2017 and 2018, and the role the STSB has as shareholder in helping to address those, was investigated by the Scrutiny Management Committee at a public meeting.

Board president Charles Parkinson said it had commissioned a review into the profitability of every route that Aurigny operates.

‘The only profitable route is London Gatwick,’ he added. ‘All of the others are either in small losses or are treading water.’

The airline’s management ‘already had a grasp’ that this was the case, Deputy Parkinson said. However, the review had produced a clearer picture of the difficulties it was facing.

Aurigny’s decision to close the London City route, which was making a significant loss, ‘had the board’s blessing’, he added.
