A formal ceremony will take place on Monday in what will be the 130th ceremony of its kind since the first Queen’s Nurse was recognised during the reign of Queen Victoria.

The new induction of Queen’s Nurses will hail from across the UK and are recognised for their innovation and leadership qualities.

‘After 40 years I still feel the same about driving up the standards, I must be on to something,’ she said. ‘We’ve been warded because we have been proven to be committed to learning, ladership and high standards of patient care.’

Prison governor Dave Matthews said that Ms Barrett has been a stand-out member of staff.

‘I have never known a Queen’s Nurse to be present in the prison service in 24 years.’
