Alderney’s Roman artefacts to go on display in Guernsey first
A HAUL of Roman artefacts discovered in Alderney are to go on display at Guernsey Museum.
But they will then be returned to Alderney for permanent display.
Archaeologist, and head of Heritage Services, Dr Jason Monaghan went to the island to conduct a dig and took the artefacts back to Guernsey for further study.
He said they would be exhibited in January.
‘Some of the finds will go into our foyer showcase in January,’ said Dr Monaghan. ‘These can then come back to Alderney in time for the museum to open. We will also have prepared them for display, which will be useful for Alderney.’
Alderney States member Alex Snowdon said it was important that all of the finds were returned to Alderney.
‘We still need a full list of Roman items which have been taken from the island. I’m getting rather fed up with everything ending up in Guernsey.’
