‘We’d strongly oppose any plan to merge Forest with La Houguette’

ANY move to merge La Houguette and Forest primary schools would be met with ‘a huge amount of opposition’ from parents, according to two parish deputies who are on the Education committee.

Deputy David de Lisle said that the efforts to link the Forest and Le Rondin, and the rewards of doing so, would make breaking the two up by merging La Houguette with the former ‘very difficult to justify’. (Picture by Adrian Miller, 19714329)

West deputies Andrea Dudley-Owen and David De Lisle have confirmed their own lack of interest in pursuing the idea, which committee president Paul Le Pelley has said they would make a decision on by 2020 at the latest.

A merger would be in a bid to reduce staff salaries and consolidate costs, with La Houguette currently having the smallest average class size of any island primary school.
