‘Stick to diversion’ is advice on Delancey gridlock day two

PEOPLE in Delancey Lane and Rue des Monts, St Sampson’s, experienced a second day of long traffic queues yesterday morning as motorists trying to bypass the Vale Road closure once again took to the back roads rather than using the official diversion.

As well as residents having to put up with long tailbacks outside their homes, those going to premises in the area were hit when their journey ended in a traffic jam.

Plasterer Ben Sargent was working in Rue des Monts and said he had endured a long and difficult drive from L’Aumone yesterday morning.

‘It took me about an hour to get here,’ he said. ‘It was gridlocked everywhere. All the roads are closed at the moment.’

A spokesman for Traffic and Highway Services said that it was always a challenge to organise roadworks in the island due to the limited number of diversion routes.

He reiterated that road users should keep to the official diversions as this would help with the traffic flow.
