‘Everything doing well despite awful headlines’

THE state of the global economy has been described as the ‘best of times and worst of times’ by London’s best-known stockbroker.

Justin Urquhart Stewart, famous for his red braces, was in Guernsey at the invitation of SPF Private Clients to speak at two events.

He said that the global picture was a confusing one.

‘Everything is doing quite well, when we are also having the world’s worst headlines and lots of things going wrong, and the markets are taking no notice,’ he said.

‘We’ve got the US, Brexit, North Korea and we are coming to the end of quantitative easing. That has been the scaffolding around the economy, and the question now is, is it strong enough to survive without that support?’
