Chief minister Gavin St Pier appeared in interviews across the BBC and Sky News to argue that the release of ‘such nonsense’ suited the EU’s Brexit agenda.

The island had nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about, he said.

‘Taxpayers, both here and in the UK, need to know that this is no accident timing-wise. The Council of EU finance ministers is meeting today in Brussels, and they will likely come out afterwards and virtuously say how important it is that the UK cleans up its act with its Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies.’
