‘Don’t be surprised at no surprise Budget’
REITERATING the message from his president that this year’s Budget contained no surprises, Policy & Resources vice-president Lyndon Trott said that members should not have been surprised at this.
Deputy Trott opened the debate in what turned out to be the first half of a P&R double act, since initially president Gavin St Pier was not present to give his speech.
He was a little late for the start of the debate since he was ‘dealing with an important matter relating to current affairs’, said Deputy Trott.
Deputy Trott said that members should not have been surprised at the Budget, since the Medium Term Financial Plan had set out a clear path to return to and maintain a balanced Budget while moving into a sustainable surplus.
‘We are reaping the benefits of the fiscal policies that have been in place in recent years,’ he said.
