CFE governors in favour of two-school secondary model
A TWO-SCHOOL model for the future of secondary and higher education has been backed by the College of Further Education.
In a letter to the Guernsey Press, the chairman of the non-executive board of governors, Julian Winser, said it ‘wholly supported’ the alternative to Education, Sport & Culture’s proposals.
This was not only because it fell closer into line with the board’s objectives, but also because it felt it gave ‘the greatest opportunity for the future’.
‘We have discussed the strengths of a broad tertiary college – and the strengths of an academic school – the value of some narrow, selective sixth form colleges, the value of specialist vs. multi-option colleges, and single focused specialist schools for ranges of differing abilities and needs, alongside the benefits of schools inclusive of students up to 18 years old,’ Mr Winser said.
‘Guernsey cannot afford this much choice, nor has it the scale to provide everything for all stakeholders.’
