Waste strategy bins bag idea for stickers
ISLANDERS will have to buy stickers to attach to their household waste under changes to the strategy, which is set to triple refuse bills and cost the taxpayer almost £500,000 extra a year in benefit support.

A ‘pay as you throw’ system has already been approved by the States, however, members will be asked to formalise changes to the way this charge is made.
‘Previously, it was proposed islanders would need to purchase official bags for refuse and recycling,’ said a States spokesman. ‘However, the plan now is to sell specially-designed stickers, through local retailers, which can be applied to standard bin bags.
‘They have a strong adhesive, so once attached they cannot be tampered with or removed.
‘The stickers will only be required for general refuse. Kerbside recycling bags will be provided for free.’
