Shortly before 7am on Saturday, Becky Fossey’s partner Kieran Wallace rang for the St John Ambulance service to come to the couple’s home at Les Genats.

Miss Fossey was due to give birth at the end of this month, and said she had had a few pains overnight on the Friday.

‘I didn’t really think it was actual labour,’ she said.

‘Then at about 5am they went so I thought I would go to sleep and get some rest. I woke up at half past six and my waters went.’

It was not long after that that she realised the baby was on its way, and – in no uncertain terms – told Mr Wallace to call an ambulance.

The call went out at about five to seven and the ambulance arrived some 10 minutes later.
