‘Ineffectual’ signs are not stopping car sales

TWO weeks on from the installation of signs on coastal car parks, owners of second-hand cars continue to flout the advice from the States not to put their vehicles for sale there.

The signs cost £1,000 to create and feature a range of statements such as ‘Buyers beware, rust is not your colour’ and ‘Guernsey’s beautiful West Coast, already famous for its wrecks, so we don’t need any sold from this car park’.

Some comments from the public on Facebook described the signs as ‘totally useless and ineffectual’, while others urged for coastal car parks to have 23-hour parking limits which would allow fixed penalty notices to be issued.

One seller whose vehicle was for sale at Vazon Bay, who preferred not to be named, said the implication made by the States was insulting.

Senior manager of the waste team, Sarah Robinson, advised islanders about the alternatives to leaving vehicles in public places.

‘There are three ways to do it if you want to dispose of your vehicle.

‘Either apply online at gov.gg, call the bulk refuse office for a form to be sent via post or go to Wheadon House to pick up a form.’
