Delancey parking penalties upset Mont Morin residents

PEOPLE living in Mont Morin, St Sampson’s, say they are frustrated with the way parking in the area has been handled.

Following a number of abandoned vehicles being left in Delancey Park’s car park, the area has now been turned into a terre a l’amende area, which forbids overnight parking.

Plans are afoot to allow permit holders to park there during the prohibited hours. However, there will be only 10 permits issued and these will be limited to one per household – although that could be changed following a meeting next week.

Susan Eon has lived in Mont Morin for 23 years and she said it would have been better left unchanged.

‘I think it was probably better as it was, but I can see why they have done it.

‘Traffic has got so much busier in the last three or four years because there are new buildings without adequate parking – it’s a bit of a nuisance really.’

Education, Sport & Culture, which leases Delancey Park from the constables of St Sampson’s, has been in consultation with the constables ‘for some time’ on the issue.

ESC said the douzaine will be revisiting the matter next week following the backlash from residents.

It will be looking into whether there can be in flexibility in the number of permits issued, among other conditions.
