Arts Commission is worried about funding after next year
ALTHOUGH it has seen a large part of its VisitGuernsey grant restored for 2018, the Guernsey Arts Commission remains concerned about what will happen after next year.
‘The arts haven’t been properly supported for some time. In the short term now we haven’t got as much as we’d like,’ said commission chairman Trevor Wakefield.
‘We’ll be asking Economic Development to a meeting to discuss funding for 2019. The statement issued so far suggests they’ve given us some for 2018, but still think we shouldn’t be getting funding at all for 2019,’ said Mr Wakefield.
He backed Sports Commission chairman David Harry in calling for government strategies to highlight the value of arts and sports.
Both commissions felt that the value of their events had been underestimated by Economic Development.
