TAXI fares could rise on 18 December – and the Environment & Infrastructure Committee is asking islanders for their reactions.

The rise represents a 2.52% increase in the maximum taxi fare and has been worked out based on the Halcrow Formula – the agreed basis upon which maximum taxi fares are calculated.

E&I points out that this is the first rise since November 2015.

A formal notice is published in today’s La Gazette Officielle.

E&I said that the fare utilises 20p units, so while some fares will remain the same others will go up in increments of 20p.

For instance, while a two-mile journey on Tariff 1 will remain at £6.60, 4.5 miles on the same tariff will go up by 20p to £11.40.

A two-mile journey on tariff 2 (Monday-Friday, 10pm-7am or Saturday and Sunday, 7pm-7am for a maximum of four passengers) will rise to £9.20, while a 4.5-mile journey on the tariff will increase by 40p to £16.

n The consultation period runs from yesterday until Tuesday 12 December and people are invited to send comments in writing to The Director of Traffic and Highway Services, Bulwer Avenue Office, Bulwer Avenue, St Sampson, GY1 3HY or by email to traffic@gov.gg.
