Even the seven buses that shuttled people back and forth to parking at Specsavers were not enough to prevent queues of people waiting to get on the them.

Co-organised by the Cancer Research UK Guernsey branch and the Lions Club of Guernsey, a profit of some £16,000 has been raised in recent years which is split between the two.

'I never worry about people turning up as they come no matter what the weather,' said Cancer Research UK Guernsey branch chairman, Andie Fuller.

'It costs a lot of money to put this on and we couldn't do it without the help of our hosts, Mr and Mrs Peter Bachmann, and the sponsors that support us. Where in the world would you get another venue like this?'
