Special festive gift for children

TEN children are going to have an extra special present this year, thanks to the Sarah Groves Foundation and States’ Children’s Services.

Bikes have been supplied by Ian Brown’s Cycles and will be given to children of a range of ages who have been identified by Team Around the Children, which is part of Children and Families Community Services within the States.

TAC’s co-ordinator for children’s services, Jane Ward, said work on the initiative had been ongoing for three months.

‘I’ve been getting in touch with families that I felt would really benefit from having a bicycle at Christmas for a number of different reasons,’ said Mrs Ward.

‘I’m sure it will be magical for some of the children – they will all remain anonymous and won’t know about the process, although their families will.’

Vic Groves, a managing trustee of the Sarah Groves Foundation, said the preparation behind the charitable gift was better than last year’s.

‘Jane put forward 10 families – we don’t know their identities – who are under strict instructions not to open them until Christmas Day. The children will come down to them on Christmas morning like a proper Christmas present.’
