Aurigny's early flight to Manchester diverted back to Guernsey this morning.

An airline spokesman said the GR670 came back to the island 'as a precaution' after running into a thunderstorm over the south of England.

'No emergency procedures were necessary, and the aircraft returned to Guernsey without incident,' said the spokesman.

'The aircraft is being checked over by engineers, as a precaution, and we do not believe it was actually struck by lightning.

Today's travel, both air and sea, has suffered a lot of disruption owing to stormy conditions.
