Joining Sir Richard Collas was the Lt-Governor, Sir Ian Corder, Lady Corder, members of the Royal Court, States members and islanders.

Sir Ian proposed the loyal toast to Her Majesty The Queen at midday, and then paid tribute to Anne Diamond and Derek Webb, who had been named as recipients of the British Empire Medal and the MBE respectively.

This year the recipients were once again people ‘who have really contributed to our society and made life an awful lot better for all of us,’ he said.

Miss Diamond had spent more than 30 years providing very personalised care to members of the island’s deaf community, said Sir Ian, adding that it was a mark of her humility that she was genuinely surprised to have received the award.

Mr Webb had taken some convincing that it was not a ‘wind-up’, he said, going on to say that Mr Webb had used his position to transform the sport of table tennis in the island.
