Donkey statue owners facing deadline

OWNERS of a controversial donkey statue have less than two weeks to either submit a planning application or move the statue, or a compliance notice will be issued, planners have said.

Geoff and Jennie Dorey unveiled the 12ft-high bronze statue of the kicking donkey at Le Friquet Garden Centre in September, with hopes that a permanent Town location could be found for it.

But in November planners said the statue had been in place long enough to no longer be classed as a temporary structure and now a planning application was needed.

Planning Services issued a further update yesterday.

‘We have still not received a planning application as requested,’ a spokesman said.

‘The authority has allowed until 31 January for an application to be made, failing which we will have no alternative but to issue a compliance notice.’
