Facing defeat, Education prepare 11-18 compromise
MOMENTUM shifted in favour of the alternative model in the States yesterday, as deputies commended its ‘focus on outcomes’, ‘exciting potential’ and ‘visionary’ proposals.
However, other members of the Assembly argued that its benefits are ‘conceptual and unevidenced’, with Deputy Lyndon Trott saying he ‘could not remember a proposal so bereft of detail’ in his 18 years in the States.
Nineteen of the 40 States members have indicated their intention to support the two-school, 11-18 model, with seven yet to speak and others yet to declare their position.
Debate on the alternative model amendment is expected to end today, however, it emerged at 5.45pm, to groans from some deputies, that Education is set to lay a new amendment today, which will propose two 11-16 schools and one 11-18 school.
