President and most members of Education to step down

THE president and the majority of members of Education, Sport and Culture are set to resign in the wake of the States' decision to approve a 11-18 model of secondary education this week.

Education, Sport and Culture president Paul Le Pelley announced his intention to step down from the role at the conclusion of this week's three-day debate, which saw members approving a two-school model over ESC's proposed three-school system. He was not the only member of the department to resign. (20424936)

Member Deputy Neil Inder was the first to announce that he had tendered his resignation today, and he was followed later in the afternoon by Deputy John Gollop saying that he would be resigning too.

And then president Paul Le Pelley rose to say that neither he nor his vice president, Deputy Andrea Dudley-Owen, would be seeing the proposals through: 'We simply cannot be responsible for bringing this back to you,' he said, announcing their intention to resign.

The departures leave Deputy Lester Queripel as the sole member of the committee, having been elected on Wednesday.
