Chamber’s idea of joint board with industry ‘a step too far’

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT’S new president has rejected the suggestion of creating a board where politicians work with members of industry to draw up policy.

The idea was mooted by Chamber of Commerce president Martyn Dorey, who was keen to see closer working between the committee and industry because local companies would be having to deliver the economic vision.

But Deputy Parkinson has said that, while he values industry input, he thought creating a joint board was a step too far.

‘I am all in favour of public/private collaboration over the development and implementation of an economic strategy for Guernsey, but I’m not sure that this will require the establishment of formal structures, at least at the policy-making – rather than implementation – level,’ he said.
