Richard Whitehead won a gold medal in the 200m T42 Athletics event at London 2012 and is also known for marathon running, where he holds records for athletes with a double amputation.

He was made an MBE in the 2013 New Year Honours.

This week he is in the island as a special guest for the Channel Islands Sports Awards, but found time to visit the special needs secondary school.

He gave the pupils a class which examined how they can move and race to crawl through the legs of team-mates.

The pupils said it was a great experience.

‘It was amazing,’ said 13-year-old Keleighsha Le Gallic. ‘It was a bit different to our normal PE class. He [Richard] was very inspirational and we all had good fun.’
