PayPal apologises and restores Cheshire Home’s online account

THE Guernsey Cheshire Home feared it was going to lose vital funds when its PayPal online payments account was blocked.

The Guernsey Cheshire Home has had access to its PayPal account restored.

But after a formal complaint was made to the company, the charity’s account was restored.

The situation arose after the Cheshire Home set up a PayPal account in order for people to set up regular payments.

Since the PayPal account was set up in August last year, some 125 people have started paying monthly amounts using the service to send money directly into the charity’s account.

In December last year PayPal placed a block on the charity taking funds out of the account while it was ‘under review’, and earlier this week the home received an email informing it that its account had been rejected and it was blocked from receiving any more money.

Miss Bowditch yesterday morning sent a formal complaint to PayPal over its handling of the account.

PayPal restored the home’s account yesterday afternoon: 'Sometimes we have to take a closer look at an account, and pause their activity while we conduct a review,’ said a spokesperson.

They apologised for ‘the inconvenience caused... and the mistakes made during their review’.

‘We have now fully restored their account, and will be issuing a goodwill gesture to the charity,’ said the spokesperson.
