Serious civil unrest in Kashmir meant that prisoners could not be brought from the Central Jail to court on the day of the latest hearing.

Miss Groves was killed on a houseboat in Kashmir in April 2013.

Dutchman Richard de Wit has denied murdering her, but the trial is now at its 112th scheduled hearing.

'A very strong letter has been sent to the judge this week and to all senior political and legal stakeholders in India urging immediate action to prevent the total collapse of the trial and to take steps to ensure that the verdict, when eventually delivered, is a safe one,' her father Vic said.

'It has been made clear to everyone that as matters stand, neither side will trust the eventual verdict.'

The case is due to resume tomorrow.
