KGV portable buildings must go by February, say planners

MORE than two years after a temporary building was meant to be removed from the KGV playing field, planners have had to issue a compliance notice.

The portable buildings used to be home to the Dyslexia Day Centre during the extensive work on the buildings at the playing fields site.

The structures had permission granted in December 2013, but that was restricted to two years. When planners returned to inspect the site in October last year, it was still there.

The Dyslexia Day Centre moved to its new home at the former St Andrew’s School more than a year ago.

A pre-school is now based in the cabins.

A compliance notice was issued, stating that the building had to be removed in February 2019.

A Planning Services spokesman said they had taken into account the circumstances of the building when setting the removal deadline.

‘Given the current use of the building and its relationship to the development of the KGV site, a period of one year for compliance was considered reasonable in this particular case to enable the current breach of planning control to be resolved,’ he said.

KGV project chairman Stuart Falla said he was aware of the notice and planned to have the structure removed by the end of this calendar year.[I spoke to the pre-school but they did not wish to say anything and asked not to be named]
