A Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society-themed micro-site has launched as part of a marketing campaign to promote the island. Guernsey ice-cream (above right) will also be sold at the London premiere on 9 April.

The interactive site links the novel up with the film by providing both historical and real-life content on the island’s authentic history of the Occupation.

Director of marketing and tourism Mike Hopkins said the site has links to other heritage sites and special themed offers.

‘This site aims to take the visitor on an immersive journey through one of the most poignant and never to be forgotten periods of Guernsey’s history, bringing the fictional story of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society to real life,’ he said.

Specially filmed interviews with islanders who stayed during the Occupation as well as surviving evacuees are on the micro-site along with archive photos and press extracts.

VisitGuernsey worked with local web development agency TPA and StudioCanal’s marketing team to create the micro-site.

Attendees at the world premiere in London on 9 April will also be given a taste of the island – Guernsey ice-cream will be available at the Curzon cinema in Mayfair.

Bespoke lids for 100ml pots will feature images from the film.

Guernsey cream will be included in a themed afternoon tea for social influencers and global press at the Soho Hotel.

VisitGuernsey brand and communications executive Zoe Gosling said the team was grateful to the dairy for their support.

‘Ice cream and the cinema go hand in hand and this was an opportunity that couldn’t be missed. The island produces some of the best dairy produce in the world and we are so grateful to present it at such a prestigious event,’ she said. ‘It’s a fantastic way of getting the Guernsey brand in front of such a high-profile audience’.
