The States’ Assembly & Constitution Committee is hosting the meeting at 7pm on Monday 16 April at The Princess Royal Centre for the Performing Arts.

It will feature a short presentation and a question and answer session, followed by the opportunity for supporters of each option to gather around tables and discuss how they might represent it.

‘This event is an opportunity for people interested in forming or joining a group to learn more about the purpose of the campaign groups, the application and decision process and the referendum as a whole,’ said Sacc president Deputy Peter Roffey.

‘It is also an opportunity for people interested in forming, or joining, a group to meet like-minded individuals and consider whether they wish to put a group together.’

On the ballot paper for the referendum, which is due to take place on 10 October, are the status quo, full island-wide voting every four years, island-wide voting every two years with deputies serving six-year terms, four electoral districts or a hybrid combining island-wide voting with electoral voting.

Each campaign group must contain at least two individuals on the electoral roll, which can include former and serving deputies.

On 18 April, the States will consider proposals from the committee to appoint former Bailliff Sir de Vic Carey, Jurat Stephen Jones and Graham Daldry as members of the Campaign Group Assessments Panel, which will assess the applications from the prospective groups.

If the States approves the proposed panel, the prospective groups will have until noon on Friday 25 May to submit applications.

The successful groups will be eligible for a grant of up to £5,000 from the States to publicise their favoured options. Total referendum expenses must not exceed £10,000 by law.

This money can only be spent during the formal campaigning period, which will run from Saturday 1 September to Tuesday 9 October, the day before the referendum.

Sacc has published guidance on how to apply to become a campaign group and further information is available online at www.gov.gg/referendum.

Alternatively, people can contact Elizabeth Dene, the lead referendum officer, by email at referendum@gov.gg or by telephone on 717284.
