Training has been tough ask

Having run only short distances infrequently in the past, Sharon Coburn said she wanted to challenge herself both mentally and physically after she turned 50 last year.

Mrs Coburn said she has had to run in sleet, snow, rain and lots of wind to build up the habit of running regularly.

In March, she completed the Windsor and Eton half marathon in high winds and snow to gain experience in running in a proper race.

The Guernsey Cheshire Home has been chosen by Mrs Coburn to receive the proceeds raised from running the marathon because she wanted to choose a local organisation.

‘I chose the Cheshire Home for two main reasons – they do a fantastic job and are completely reliant on donations and I am lucky that I am fit and healthy and wanted to help people who have a debilitating illness,’ she said.

Mrs Coburn said she had mixed feelings about the big day – she is looking forward to the challenge, but is also daunted.
