It has been designed to allow passengers to save with a cheaper hand baggage-only ticket.

Aurigny commercial director Malcolm Coupar said passengers had more choice and flexibility with the new structure and website.

‘We know many people have been eagerly awaiting the new fares and the hand luggage-only option and we are pleased we are now able to go live next week, without any further delay,’ he said.

A Light ticket will allow passengers to travel with a piece of hand luggage and they will have to pay extra for anything else.

Smart ticket-holders will be able to travel with 23kg of hold luggage and pick their own seats.

They will also be able to change their flights without the £40 administration charge, meaning they only have to pay for the difference in ticket price.

The Flexi ticket will allow passengers to travel with two pieces of hold luggage weighing up to 23kg each.

Passengers with a Flexi ticket will also be able to receive a full refund up to an hour before their flight, change their flights without paying extra and can choose any seats, including those with extra leg room.

Only bookings made after the launch will be subject to the new structure, meaning that customers who have already booked their flights will not be affected in anyway.

Services to Alderney, Southampton, Dinard and Grenoble will not be affected by the new fares structure, and neither will through fares.

The airline announced the new structure in mid-September and it was due to launch the following month.

Problems with the new website delayed that.

Aurigny said it hopes to generate up to 30,000 extra (single) passenger journeys each year and that this could bring up to 7,500 additional visitors to the island.

  • The new fare structure goes live on Thursday 26 April.
