‘Guernsey’s Glastonbury’ for Sarah Groves Foundation

A ONE-OFF charity music fundraiser in June is being billed as ‘the next best thing to the Sark Folk Festival and Glastonbury’, which are both taking a break in 2018.

With no Glastonbury or Sark Folk Festival this year, the one-off Freewheeler Fest, raising money for the Tour de Sez cycling event, which supports the Sarah Groves Foundation, will be held at Bruce Russell’s in June. Freewheeler Fest at Bruce Russell’s will be raising money for the Tour de Sez, which supports The Sarah Groves Foundation.

Local bands, food and beer will be the order of the day between 5 and 11pm on Saturday 16 June, with a maximum of 800 tickets on sale at £10 per person.

It is being organised by Lisa Vidamour and Simon Russell, who are members of the Tour de Sez organising committee, and Sarah Van Vlymen, who will be one of the riders Amsterdam-bound in September.

‘We have had birthday parties and the likes down here before, but we’ve never given up the whole site, though we have had many offers,’ said Mr Russell.

‘I asked Lisa if we could do something and it soon went from an event with a few people strumming acoustic guitars to something that will cover the whole site.

‘It will be the next best thing to The Sark Folk Festival and Glastonbury as both are being rested this year.’

Acts confirmed to play so far include The Cor Damme Las and The Ukaladeez. At least five will be taking to the stage.

‘What we are trying to do is to sell the uniqueness of the location and this will be a one-off occasion for a good cause,’ said Miss Vidamour.

Mr Russell said the Sarah Groves Foundation was a very worthy cause.

‘All the money raised goes to local causes and most of them are children-based ones,’ he said.

Tickets are available from various outlets including Bruce Russell & Son Gold and Silversmiths and Mint Brasserie. Further details are available at www.facebook.com/FreewheelerFest/.
