Teams of young islanders learn key business skills as part of the programme and their efforts were recognised at a special awards night at the Princess Royal Centre for the Performing Arts.

Company of the year award went to Muno, which sold Guernsey-themed products.

It will be representing Guernsey at the South East Young Enterprise regional finals in Guildford in June.

The company also picked up the best product and best administered company awards.

Beri won the awards for corporate social responsibility, best trade stand, best company report, best use of digital and best presentation.

There was also an award of achiever of the year for each company, including 3Rs, which is Young Enterprise’s team programme company.

These were 3Rs Jordan-Lee Gallienne, Howard Joyce of Azbar, Jacob Goss from Beri – who has joined the Guernsey Young Enterprise board – and Olivia Bennett from Muno.

Ladies’ College student Isabelle Moorshead, 16, who was managing director of Muno, said: ‘I learned a lot. I never really understood a how a business really was run and the directorship roles.’

She added: ‘I have realised that I can manage people better than I thought. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and I have really enjoyed it, so I am thinking about business careers more.’

Beri managing director Jacob Goss, 17, a pupil at Elizabeth College, said: ‘I really enjoyed it. It taught me how to manage a team and how to manage people, but also myself. It taught me time management. I want to go into politics. It helped with my public speaking and confidence.’

Gez Overstall, chairman of the Young Enterprise Guernsey area board, said: ‘It was a pleasure to join our teams of entrepreneurs in celebrating their achievements over the last eight months.

‘Each year the evening provides inspiration for all involved to keep learning and developing new skills through experience. Thanks go out to all our supporters, in particular our main sponsor Sure International.’
