Worker dies after industrial accident

A 50-YEAR-OLD man injured in an industrial accident on Sunday has died, Guernsey Police has confirmed.

Barry Challen, 50, who was from the UK, died in hospital yesterday.

He had been flown to a UK hospital on Wednesday in a critical condition. He had suffered a head injury.

The man was one of a team fitting new fridges into a shop owned by the Co-op on the Bridge, which is due to become a Locale store

'Guernsey Police will continue to support the Health and Safety Executive with their investigations and will assist with the ongoing coronial enquiries in the UK,' said a police spokesman.

'An inquest into the death of Mr Challen will be held in due course.’

A spokesman from the Health and Safety Executive added: ‘Our investigations are ongoing into the industrial accident that occurred at a location on the Bridge on Sunday 20 May. We cannot comment further at this stage.’
