The special music event was run by Sound Guernsey, which is a non-profit charity that organises local under-18 gigs.

However, Saturday’s event was aimed at all ages.

It was the first time the group had organised an event in Market Square.

Organiser Jon Bisson said it had gone well.

‘I am really happy with it,’ he said.

He was hopeful that they would put on another event in the Market in future.

Among the bands playing were Kings, Static Alice, The Recks and Tantale.

Maisie Bisson was playing in band Track Not Found.

‘It’s got a really nice vibe,’ she said.

‘I think the weather has helped a lot.

At other events in the Market the weather hasn’t been so great, so less people have turned out.

‘There aren’t a lot of pop bands on Guernsey, so these events have to be based on alternative music, but it opens up this music scene to a wider audience.’

Natalie Le Page said she had never been to such an event in Town before.

‘This has a good crowd going and a really good atmosphere, a good mix of young and old,’ she said.

‘We’ve only been here for 20 minutes but we’re planning on staying for a while.

‘I think it’s good to have events like this, especially for the younger community.

‘Guernsey has a reputation that there isn’t much to do for the kids – it’s either you go to the beach or really you don’t do anything.’

Leon Ferbrache had just moved back to Guernsey from London.

‘It’s the first event like this I’ve been to since I moved back,’ he said.

‘It’s good, it’s a beautiful setting, our group have brought our children and it’s perfect for that.’

Mr Bisson said he was very grateful for the support the organisation got from local businesses, including main sponsors HMV and Cherry Godfrey.
