Warry’s clos offers a rung on housing ladder
PEOPLE with an interest in partial ownership property took the chance to look over the Guernsey Housing Association’s latest offering.
Though the 15 houses, four flats, and one bungalow built by Rihoy at the Warry’s development in the Grand Bouet are already taken, visitors were keen on similar developments that might become available in future.
Trainee trust administrator, Tia-Louise Renouf, 19, currently lives with her mother and stepfather.
She and her partner, Ben Ogier, 19, were thinking of partial ownership in future and had their names on the list.
‘I don’t want to rent as when you have some sort of ownership you can make a place your own and it gives you more in terms of long-term security,’ she said.
‘These places are nice and cosy, not too big and not too small.’
Chris and Kim Gomez currently live in States housing.
‘We want to get on the property ladder so we might be able to get somewhere that we can own completely in future,’ said Mrs Gomez, 43, who works at Cobo Kiosk.
‘These places look lovely.’
Jessica Ferbrache, 27, and partner Joshua Smale, 28, currently live in partial ownership property at Cour du Parc but with two young children are looking for somewhere with parking and a garden.
‘These places are very impressive and the finish is really good,’ said Mr Smale.
‘Parking is something that is very important to both of us and if one of these places was available we would take it straight away.’
Andy and Linda O’Reilly were among the first people to move into GHA partial ownership property when they moved into Roseville in April 2007, where they still live.
‘We just wanted to see how the places have changed and we have encouraged others to consider partial ownership,’ said Mr O’Reilly, 62.
‘It’s the best thing we ever did and the GHA are really good landlords. They have been true to their word and if there have been any problems they have sorted it out to the best of their ability in a short period of time.’
Mrs O’Reilly, 58, said: ‘Paying mortgage and rent together make things much more manageable for us than it would be in the private sector.’
GHA chief executive Steve Williams said the Warry’s development was partial ownership as the GHA had considered there was already a lot of rental accommodation in the area and it was about striking a balance.
